Where am I going? What am I doing?
I am waiting for the final edits back on the second book before I can go for a second contract with Trafford. This means the Engineer's Tables will be out in print by the end of June 08. The second book is about how to use Excel as a vital engineer's tool. The first book is about The Engineer's Word (MS Word as a desktop tool).
Most engineers I train accept that maybe the can handle the first two topics MS Word and MS Excel but put their foot down at VBA. When I show the first two topics and it is seen to be easier than anticipated there is a lot pressure to show VBA, from all quarters!
The third book is in progress but I haven't spent as much time as I would like on it, so I need to find a space and time to focus on it. The daytime job is time-consuming and demanding (and exciting), domestic chores are always waiting for me and get ready for the move to Ottawa at the end of June...... Life.
I would like to see the third book ready by late October, I know this book will be the key for most engineers and then designing engineering documents become a creative and powerful process.
My website will go eCommerce-enabled in the next month and the first two books will be available through Motagg website as ebooks. Seminars are of great interests but I really need to finish my books before I consider the next step.
I was asked today what will I write next and I thought about two things:
1) Rules for creating good databases. The Engineer's Database
This is a popular request on my time so I think I can present two types of databases. One that is a MTO collection from external cad files and setting up a drawing register.
2) Anthology of Structural Engineers experiences. the Engineer's Tales
This is a hit list of questions engineers will be invited to answer and write about their careers, the highs, the lows, the best, the worse, the fun and the why.
