A nice and rare evening out for myself and my wife. We accepted the IStructE invitation and joined 30 people to hear Sarah Buck describe her aims for the Institution. She sees the challenge is to attract more people into the profession and demonstrate enthusiasm for the work of structural engineers. Totally in line with what I am tying to develop for the profession in the Oil and Gas globally, beyond the IStructE; we have similar aims.
I hope we will be able to work together and foster our relationship further on common goals. It was a great pleasure to meet her. She presented a fantastic sketch by Stephen Wilshire to Nigel Shriver, our Chairman of the CPGCE. It was a landscape sketch of famous buildings. I remember watching a documentary of him from when he was maybe 9 or 10. He is a wonderful and thoughtful inspiration for engineers! You should see this clip of him today.
